Zero Defect Zero Effect: ZED Gold
Rhino is ZED Gold certified, the Indian government’s certification for MSMEs on quality and environmental performance.
Certification
Why ZED Gold
ZED stands for Zero Defect, Zero Effect: manufacturing without defects and without harming the environment. Rhino consciously chose ZED Gold, which assesses 20 parameters across the business. After a three-day assessment and the closing of the points raised, the Gold certificate was awarded in April 2025, and the first yearly surveillance assessment was completed in June 2026.
The certificate was issued under the MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The 20 ZED Gold parameters and Rhino’s direction
ZED Gold assesses a business on 20 parameters. Each line below says how Rhino works on that parameter. The audit findings, records and measured results stay internal.
| No. | Parameter | Rhino’s direction |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Leadership | A written quality policy and a CSR policy, both signed by the Managing Director, set the direction: customer delight, waste recovery and energy saving as a social responsibility, appropriately sized projects, and skills built at Rhino and at the customer. Management review meetings follow progress against yearly objectives. |
| 2 | Swachh (clean) workplace | Cleaning and hygiene sheets and regular cleaning and hygiene audits keep the shop floor and offices orderly. The results go to the management review. |
| 3 | Occupational (workplace) safety | Hazards are identified and recorded, safety audits are carried out, mock drills are held, and a competence matrix shows who is trained for which task. |
| 4 | Measurement of timely delivery | Delivery schedules are set for orders, on time delivery is measured and reviewed, and a sales flow chart defines the steps of the sales process. |
| 5 | Quality management | A quality policy and yearly quality objectives are tracked month by month: customer satisfaction, production plan against actual, rejections, rework, complaints and supplier rating. Internal audits, training, and root cause analysis with corrective and preventive action keep the system improving. |
| 6 | Human resource management | Induction training, a competence matrix, a training needs analysis and a soft skills matrix guide how people are developed. |
| 7 | Daily work management | A QCD (quality, cost, delivery) schedule and a written dispatch procedure run the daily work. A plan, do, check, act loop is used to review the targets. |
| 8 | Planned maintenance and calibration | A list of machinery, preventive maintenance schedules and maintenance records, with machine availability followed through repair and failure intervals (MTTR and MTBF). Problems are closed through corrective and preventive action. |
| 9 | Process control | Each project has a plan, a monitoring schedule and a quality assurance plan, and fabrication follows written work procedures, such as for welding. |
| 10 | Product quality and safety | Quality assurance plans, test certificates and commissioning reports are kept for the machines Rhino builds, and any problem is closed through corrective and preventive action. |
| 11 | Material management | Inventory is recorded and reviewed and stores follow a written procedure. An optimal inventory process covers demand forecasting, reorder points, storage and stock audits. |
| 12 | Energy management | Energy sources and users are listed, energy audits are carried out and targets are set by source. The direction is cleaner electricity: a move to a green energy provider and a more efficient solar system. |
| 13 | Environment management | An environmental aspects and impacts register, environment audits and a waste stream register show where Rhino’s work touches the environment and what is done about it. |
| 14 | Measurement and analysis | Objectives are measured and reviewed with data: yearly objective tracking, Pareto analysis of problems, customer feedback evaluation and quality control reports. |
| 15 | Supply chain management | A purchasing procedure, supplier registration and an approved supplier list, with suppliers rated through the ERP system. |
| 16 | Risk management | Business and operational risks are identified, assessed and given mitigation actions. |
| 17 | Waste management | Waste is tackled with lean thinking: muda (waste), mura (unevenness) and muri (overburden). Waste streams are segregated in colour coded bins and passed to authorised recyclers, with reduction targets and staff training. |
| 18 | Technology selection and upgradation | A written process for selecting technology, ERP software and a software list, and a digital transformation case study that Rhino has presented at an industry event. |
| 19 | Natural resources | Targets and an action plan for conserving natural resources, with staff training. |
| 20 | Corporate social responsibility | A CSR policy and action plan: education and skills (internships, and training for school dropouts and underprivileged people), inclusion of differently abled people, sustainable innovation and waste solutions for the community, animal welfare, and building local entrepreneurial and cluster capacity. |
